A female driver who assaulted a policeman in Imus City, Cavite in February was jailed and charged, while the policeman was commended by the National Police Commission 4A (Calabarzon) on Monday.

The commendation took place at a flag-raising ceremony at the new Imus City Hall in Bgy. Malagasang 1-G in Imus City.

Police Staff Sergeant Philip Andrew Garingo of the Imus City Component Police received a Certificate of Commendation for his professionalism and restraint in handling the female driver, who slapped and kicked him in a viral video.

Garingo did not lose his temper despite being injured by the woman.

The ceremony was led by National Police Commission (Napolcom) acting regional director attorney Owen De Luna, Imus City Mayor Alex “AA” Advincula, Vice Mayor Homer Saquilayan and Imus City police chief Lt. Col. Jack Angog. They also recognized Garingo’s partner, Patrolman Marvin Bobis, of the Imus PNP.

The female driver, who was drunk at the time of the incident, tested positive in the alcohol breath test analysis and was detained. She faced multiple charges for her actions.

Garingo said the woman said sorry to him when he saw her in jail a few days later.

The Napolcom said Garingo’s conduct should be a model for other policemen, as he showed calmness and patience in a difficult situation.
