KAWIT, Cavite — Authorities arrested the second most wanted person in the region, a suspected member of a communist terrorist group, in a manhunt operation Wednesday afternoon in Barangay Magdalo-Putol.

The suspect, known only by the alias “Panong,” was apprehended at around 12:30 p.m. by the San Fernando Municipal Police Station in Masbate, led by Capt. Diaree Maribuhoc, in coordination with the Regional Intelligence Division 5 Tracker Team under Lt. Nick Paul Macaalay and the Kawit Municipal Police Station.

Panong was arrested on the strength of six warrants issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 50 in San Jacinto, Masbate, presided by Judge Arturo Clemente Bajar Revil.

The warrants covered multiple counts of attempted murder, each carrying a recommended bail of P120,000; two counts of murder without recommended bail; two additional murder charges also without bail; and one count of arson with a recommended bail of P72,000.

The suspect was informed of his rights following the arrest. He was brought to the Kawit Municipal Police Station for documentation before being turned over to the court that issued the warrants for appropriate disposition.

Police said they would continue to intensify their campaign against wanted individuals in the region.
