CAVITE CITY — About 500 young males from Cavite City underwent free circumcision in a mass program organized by the local government through the City Health Office, drawing together doctors, health workers, and non-government organizations at the Montano Gymnasium.
City health officials said the program offered more than a medical service, describing circumcision as a deeply rooted Filipino cultural tradition that marks a boy’s passage into adolescence.
Health professionals highlighted the medical benefits of the procedure, including improved hygiene and reduced risk of infection.
Despite the nerves on display — some participants visibly anxious, others resorting to jokes to ease the tension — organizers said the event proceeded smoothly, credited to the coordination of medical and support staff throughout the day.
Local government officials praised both the parents and young participants for their cooperation, as well as the dedication of healthcare workers who ensured the program’s orderly conduct.
The city holds the annual mass circumcision as part of its regular health services calendar, offering the procedure at no cost to families.
