GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite — Philippine immigration agents have arrested a 29-year-old South Korean woman wanted in her home country in connection with a large-scale illegal online gambling syndicate, the Bureau of Immigration said.
Kim Youngsun was arrested in Barangay Buenavista I in General Trias, Cavite, the bureau said.
According to an intelligence report from South Korean authorities, Kim served as an assistant manager overseeing a support team for the syndicate’s operations. She is accused of involvement in running 23 illegal online gambling websites operated from offices in Pasay City and Quezon City since November 2018, immigration officials said.
The gambling ring is estimated to have generated about 5.33 trillion won (roughly $3.9 billion) from illegal online sports betting and other forms of gambling, according to the bureau.
Kim is named in an arrest warrant issued by the Incheon District Court on April 22, 2025, in connection with establishing and operating an illegal cyber gambling platform. Interpol issued a Red Notice against her in June 2025, the bureau said.
Immigration records show Kim entered the Philippines in 2025 as a temporary visitor and was later found to have overstayed after her authorized stay expired.
She is currently held at a Bureau of Immigration warden facility while authorities carry out custodial and deportation proceedings to return her to South Korea, where she faces the criminal charges.
