INDANG, Cavite — Three people were arrested after allegedly impersonating Bureau of Fire Protection personnel and attempting to sell a fire extinguisher to a construction supply store in Barangay Alulod on April 15, police said.

The suspects were identified as John, John, and Andrea — names withheld pending formal charges — and now face charges of usurpation of authority or official functions and illegal use of uniforms or insignia under Articles 177 and 179 of the Revised Penal Code.

The Indang Municipal Police Station received a tip at around 1:40 p.m. about a suspected fake inspection at YHY Construction Supply. Senior Fire Officer 1 Adonna Limbo, who was passing by, noticed a man in a BFP activity shirt stepping out of a gold-brown Honda City with plate number DCQ 7374 and appearing to conduct an inspection.

Suspecting the activity was unauthorized — no BFP inspection had been scheduled for that date — Limbo reported the incident to police.

When authorities returned to the scene, a store employee confirmed she did not recognize the individuals but said they had identified themselves as BFP Indang personnel, attempted to sell a fire extinguisher, and warned that a BFP chief inspection was forthcoming.

When police approached the suspects’ vehicle, it fled, prompting a hot pursuit. The three were apprehended minutes later in Barangay Hugo Perez, Trece Martires City.

A BFP official confirmed that the arrested individuals were not authorized personnel of BFP Indang.

The suspects remained in the custody of the Indang Municipal Police Station for documentation and filing of charges.
