Cavite plumber returns ₱2,000 mistaken GCash transfer meant for grandmother’s medicine
ROSARIO, Cavite — A local plumber drew widespread praise on social media after voluntarily returning ₱2,000 that was accidentally sent to his GCash account — money intended to buy medicine for an elderly woman.
Jhe Juanino Rodriguez, a resident of Barangay Bagbag-II in Rosario, Cavite, was on a job at Noveleta Medical Hospital fixing a motor pump when he received an unexpected e-payment at around 10:24 a.m.
Nearly two hours later, at 12:02 p.m., Rodriguez received a call from the sender, who explained the transfer was a mistake. The ₱2,000, the caller said, was meant to purchase medicine for his grandmother.
Rodriguez returned the full amount without hesitation.
“I know that money was hard-earned, and it hurts even more when it’s meant for an elderly person’s medicine,” Rodriguez said. “Even though I needed the money too, I chose to do what was right.”
The act of honesty quickly gained traction online, with netizens commending Rodriguez for his integrity at a time when stories of scams and fraud have become increasingly common.
Rodriguez’s story has since resonated with many Filipinos as a reminder that honesty is not measured by the size of the amount involved, but by the character of the person who chooses to do right — even when no one is watching.
