MANILA — Prosecutors from the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division found no physical evidence of a P92.8-million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan during an ocular inspection of the site, despite official records claiming the infrastructure was 95 percent complete.

The project, located in Barangay Bunsuran, is at the center of a malversation case against former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., who is currently in detention.

The inspection was conducted by prosecutors to verify the actual status of the project, which was reportedly funded under Revilla’s Priority Development Assistance Fund, commonly known as the pork barrel. The complete absence of any structure at the reported site raised questions about the disbursement of public funds for the project.

Revilla is among several legislators implicated in the pork barrel scam, a scheme in which lawmakers allegedly channeled their discretionary funds through bogus non-governmental organizations in exchange for kickbacks. The Supreme Court declared the PDAF unconstitutional in 2013.

Authorities said they would continue to examine evidence to establish accountability for the controversial project.
