CAVITE, Philippines — Soaring electricity bills are driving more Caviteños to explore solar power as an alternative source of energy, with some residents turning to Manila’s Raon district to buy solar panels and other equipment.
One Cavite resident recently traveled to Raon in Quiapo, Manila, to purchase solar panels for use at his farm.
The man said his electricity bill reaches about P60,000 a month, prompting him to consider solar energy as a way to reduce his power expenses.
He said he hoped installing solar panels would allow him to generate part of his own electricity and eventually bring down his monthly bill.
Solar panel sellers in Raon said they have been seeing more customers looking for solar equipment, including buyers from outside Manila.
Vendors said solar-powered lights have been particularly popular as consumers look for ways to reduce their dependence on electricity from the grid.
The sellers attributed the increased demand to rising electricity costs and persistently hot weather, which has driven greater use of electric fans, air conditioners and other cooling appliances.
For Caviteños facing high monthly power bills, solar energy is increasingly being considered not only as an alternative source of electricity but also as a potential long-term way to reduce household and farm operating costs.
The shift comes as households and businesses across Cavite continue to contend with electricity expenses, making investments in renewable energy more attractive despite the upfront cost of installing solar systems.
