CAVITE CITY — Six people were arrested in an anti-illegal gambling operation targeting an underground spider derby in Barangay 44 on Thursday evening, police said.
Intel operatives of the Cavite Component City Police Station moved in at around 6 p.m. on R. Palma Street after receiving a tip about the illegal activity. The suspects were caught in the act of staging spider fights for betting purposes.
The suspects were identified by the aliases “Jerwin,” “John,” “Sherom,” “Warren,” “Ramoncito,” “Russel,” and “Julian.”
Authorities seized P4,057 in assorted bills used as wagers, four wooden sticks, a wooden box, and six live spiders.
The suspects face charges under Presidential Decree 1602, which penalizes illegal gambling. They remained in police custody as authorities prepared the appropriate cases against them.
