Sixty inmates at the Cavite Provincial Jail in the Philippines have graduated from junior high school, while 28 others completed their elementary education under a special program, the jail authorities said on Friday.

The inmates, who were part of the Alternative Learning System of the Department of Education (DepEd), received their diplomas in a solemn ceremony at the jail in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

The program, themed “Kabataang Pilipino Para sa Matatag na Kinabukasan ng Bagong Pilipinas” (Filipino Youth for a Stronger Future of New Philippines), was spearheaded by the Cavite Provincial Jail under the leadership of Provincial Warden Candelario Warllie R. Hermo.

Hermo commended the graduates for their perseverance in pursuing their education despite their circumstances, and encouraged them to continue striving for a better future.

Al Jerald V. Leyson, an education program specialist from the DepEd, also addressed the graduates, urging them to become better individuals and contribute positively to their communities.

The graduation ceremony was attended by jail employees and marked a milestone in the inmates’ rehabilitation and education.
