Philippine National Police arrested a housemaid and a caretaker in separate operations in Quezon City and Manila after they allegedly stole cash and valuables from the households employing them, PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said.

In Barangay Nayong Kanluran, Quezon City, Masambong Police Station 2 arrested a 19-year-old housemaid after her employer discovered six luxury watches, 43 pieces of jewelry and P500,000 in cash missing, with a combined value of about P4.5 million.

Police said the suspect admitted taking the items and handing them to an unidentified man who was waiting outside in a ride-hailing vehicle. She told investigators she had been deceived into believing her employer was in a car accident and that the valuables were needed urgently to cover medical expenses. Police are reviewing security camera footage and pursuing leads to identify the other person involved and recover the stolen property.

In a separate case in Barangay 163 in Manila’s Tondo district, Jose Abad Santos Police Station arrested a 28-year-old caretaker after a witness saw him taking cash from a cabinet in his employer’s room. Police recovered P20,000 from the suspect, while another P170,000 set aside for an electricity payment was found missing.

Both suspects face charges of qualified theft under Article 310 of the Revised Penal Code. The Manila suspect was informed of his constitutional rights and underwent a mandatory medical examination before being turned over to the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest.

Nartatez said the PNP would pursue accountability in cases involving breaches of trust. “Criminal acts committed against those who have placed their trust in others will not be overlooked,” he said, adding that the police would pursue every lead and work to recover victims’ property.
