Steel box girders installed along EDSA toward West Avenue now stand on their own after construction crews successfully removed the temporary tower supports that had held them in place during the installation phase of the MRT-7 project.

The tower supports, which served as scaffolding while the girders were being fitted and secured, were taken down weeks after the steel box girders were pronounced successfully installed. The removal was completed ahead of schedule, according to project developer SMC Infrastructure.

With the supports now cleared, both lanes of EDSA along the affected section have returned to normal traffic flow.

The development addresses public concern over the structural integrity of the span, with many commuters and motorists questioning whether the girders could hold without the visible center supports. Officials said the successful removal of the temporary structures confirms that the steel box girders are now self-bearing as designed.

The MRT-7, once completed, will run from North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, providing an alternative mass transit corridor for commuters in the northern Metro Manila and Central Luzon areas.
