Dasmariñas mayor eyed for Cavite 4th District congressional seat in Aug. 29 special election
DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Austria-Barzaga is being considered as a potential candidate for the vacant 4th District congressional seat in a special election set for Aug. 29, 2026.
The seat was left vacant after her son, former Rep. Kiko Barzaga, was expelled from the House of Representatives.
Barzaga previously served as 4th District representative from 2016 to 2019 before winning the mayoral race in Dasmariñas City, a post she has held since.
Should she run and win, Vice Mayor Thirdy Barzaga — also her son — would succeed her as mayor.
The city’s top-ranked councilor would then move up to the vice mayoralty under existing succession rules.
Barzaga has yet to announce whether she will seek the congressional seat.
Her name, however, continues to circulate among potential contenders for the position.
