DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — Jennifer “Jenny” Austria-Barzaga has been formally proclaimed as the newly elected representative of Cavite’s 4th Legislative District following the special election held on August 29, 2026.
The proclamation was held at the City of Dasmariñas Arena in Barangay Burol Main, where the District Board of Canvassers formally declared Barzaga the winner after she secured 201,893 votes, defeating four other candidates.
Barzaga, the incumbent mayor of Dasmariñas City, won the special election by a wide margin over former vice mayor Raul Rex Mangubat, who received 30,373 votes. Jacinto Frani Jr. garnered 24,350 votes, while Marvin Dupal-Ag received 1,184 and Leysander Ordenes 561 votes.
A total of 258,361 voters cast their ballots out of 447,387 registered voters, resulting in a 57.75% voter turnout. Voting hours were extended by two hours because of heavy rains on election day.
The special election was conducted to fill the congressional seat vacated by Barzaga’s son, Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga Jr., who was expelled from the House of Representatives in June following findings involving disorderly behavior, conduct unbecoming of a member and violations of House rules and ethical standards.
Following her proclamation, Barzaga thanked the people of Dasmariñas for their continued support and trust.
“Maraming salamat po sa inyong patuloy na suporta at tiwala, Dasmarineños!” Barzaga said in a message accompanying the announcement.
The proclamation marks the conclusion of the special election process and the beginning of Barzaga’s transition from city mayor to congressional representative of Cavite’s 4th Legislative District.
