A sidecar driver, known as “Wakwak”, is being praised for his honesty after returning an envelope containing 50,000 pesos that he found in the middle of the street. The money turned out to be from a community savings fund.

Wakwak, whose real name is Roger Estolano Drio, is a 42-year-old resident of Brgy. Bagbag 2, Rosario, Cavite. He has been driving a sidecar on Tramo Street for over a decade, earning 300 pesos a day.

On the evening of April 6, 2024, while waiting for passengers, Wakwak noticed a white envelope lying in the middle of the street. Many people had passed by and ignored it, assuming it was just a napkin. Wakwak initially hesitated to pick it up for the same reason.

“I was surprised when I approached it and found out it was a white envelope filled with thousand-peso bills,” Wakwak said in Tagalog. Despite his financial struggles, he didn’t think twice about keeping the money. His honesty and fear of God prevailed, and he returned the money to its rightful owner.

Shortly after, a woman appeared, looking distressed and searching the street. When asked what she was looking for, she said she had lost her money, which was in a white envelope.

The money belonged to May Buenaflor, a native of Tanza Cavite and a Head Supervisor at IM Tech in Epza. “I am very grateful to the driver for returning my lost money. I hugged him tightly… He is very kind… If not for him, I would have had to pay out of my own pocket because this money is from the community savings fund,” said Mrs. Buenaflor.

This is the second time Wakwak has found and returned money. In 2022, he found and returned 12,000 pesos. Wakwak is known in Tramo for his kindness, good relations with others, and a heart of gold. He also dreams of owning his own sidecar one day.
