MAGALLANES, Cavite — A fugitive on the national most wanted list, with a reward offered by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, was killed in a shootout with police in Barangay Tua on Sunday, authorities said.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Onggot,” was shot at about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 1 during an operation led by the Bacoor Component City Police Station under Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito. The Regional Mobile Force Battalion 4A, the Magallanes Municipal Police Station and the Philippine National Police Directorate for Intelligence took part.
Police said the man faced charges of murder and frustrated murder under a warrant issued Jan. 4, 2012, by Regional Trial Court Branch 30 in Balaoan, La Union. No bail was recommended for the murder charge, while bail for frustrated murder was set at 200,000 pesos.
According to the police report, the suspect tried to flee and hid behind a bamboo hut. He allegedly fired at officers as they approached, and they returned fire in self-defense. He was hit and later declared dead at the scene.
Authorities recovered two firearms: a .45-caliber pistol found near the suspect and a short firearm of undetermined caliber taken from his waist. They also found one .45-caliber shell casing and two 9 mm casings.
After the shooting, officers secured the area, called an ambulance and asked Scene of the Crime Operatives to process the scene. Police said the investigation continues, including efforts to gather statements from possible witnesses.
