SILANG, Cavite — The National Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Intelligence Division arrested the marketing manager of a crayfish aquaculture company here in an entrapment operation, following complaints that the firm was running an investment scam.
Authorities said the woman, whose identity has not been released, managed marketing for the company, which had solicited public investments in its crayfish farming business with promises of high returns from aquaculture.
The operation followed complaints from alleged victims who said they had not been repaid their capital or received the profits they were promised, investigators said.
The NBI’s investigation also found that the company continued to solicit investments without the secondary license required from the Securities and Exchange Commission to legally raise funds from the public, authorities said.
The entrapment operation was carried out after complainants contacted the NBI, leading to the manager’s arrest, officials said.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing to determine the scope of the alleged scheme and whether other individuals were involved.
