BACOOR CITY, Cavite — Authorities swept a Cavite State University campus for explosives Tuesday after a bomb threat was sent via Facebook Messenger to a page linked to computer science students, police said.
According to the Bacoor City Police Station, the threat was sent around 3:21 p.m. Tuesday to the Facebook page of the Alliance of Computer Scientist by an unidentified sender using the name “Pepper Mint.”
The message read: “MAY NARINIG PO AKONG NAGUUSAP ABOUT BOMBA AND THEY TRYING TO DETONATE IT NGAYON DAW PONG AFTERNOON SA LOOB NG CAMPUS!!!” — a claim that someone had overheard people planning to detonate a bomb inside the campus that afternoon.
Police from the Bacoor City Police Station responded immediately and coordinated with the university’s safety officer to assess the threat and secure the campus, located in Barangay Molino VI.
Officers also requested the PNP Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team to clear and inspect the area to ensure no suspicious items or explosives posed a danger to students, faculty and others on campus.
The Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 4A Digital Forensic Team was asked to help trace the digital origin of the message and identify the sender behind the “Pepper Mint” account.
Police are investigating whether the threat was genuine or a hoax, and whether charges will be filed against those responsible.
