KAWIT, Cavite — A viral Facebook post by a resident has reignited public frustration over chronic flooding, unmanaged garbage, poor street lighting and what many describe as an over-reliance on relief distribution instead of long-term solutions.
“Kamusta na Kawit? Paalala lang, hindi namin kasalanan maging mahirap pero please ‘wag nyo na pahirapan,” wrote Jhon Lester Quinto in a post that has been widely shared among residents.
“Lagi na lang nararanasan, paulit-ulit na lang — makalat, binabaha, at walang maayos na ilaw sa mga daanan laging madilim.”
The coastal town has long struggled with flooding, particularly in low-lying areas such as Binakayan, where even moderate rainfall often leaves streets submerged.
Residents say clogged drainage, rapid urbanization and poor infrastructure planning have worsened the situation.
Quinto’s post also criticized local leaders for focusing on temporary relief goods, or ayuda, rather than lasting solutions.
“Hindi po ayuda kailangan namin, aksyon po kailangan namin. Sawa na mga tao sa puro delata at bigas — ‘di po ‘yan makakatulong sa baha at lalong lalo na sa madilim na mga lugar,” he added.
Experts have noted that the “ayuda mentality” — the heavy reliance on short-term aid packages during disasters — has become a recurring pattern in many flood-prone areas.
While food packs provide immediate relief, residents argue they do little to address the root causes of flooding and other public safety issues.

Quinto ended his post with a pun on one of Kawit’s barangays, saying, “Binakayan? Or baka Binahayan? Kaunting ulan, baha. Kaawa!”
Kawit LGU officials led by Mayor Armie Aguinaldo and her son Vice Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo have yet to respond publicly to the viral post, but calls for improved drainage, waste management and public lighting continue to mount.
