KAWIT, Cavite — Local authorities announced that Kawit residents must comply with the nationwide election gun ban starting Sunday, January 12, as the municipality prepares for the 2025 elections.
Kawit Police Station emphasized that even licensed firearm holders within the historic municipality must secure written authorization from COMELEC to carry their weapons outside their homes or businesses during the five-month prohibition period.
“This measure is crucial for maintaining peace and order in Kawit, especially as we approach the election season,” the police chief said.
The ban covers all public areas in the municipality, including the grounds of Aguinaldo Shrine, Baldomero Aguinaldo Museum, and other tourist destinations.
Local law enforcement will establish checkpoints across strategic locations in Kawit to enforce the ban, which runs until June 11, 2025.
Residents found violating the prohibition face imprisonment of up to six years, permanent disqualification from public office, and loss of voting rights.
Foreign tourists and visitors to Kawit’s historical sites are also reminded that violation of the gun ban will result in deportation after serving prison terms.
For inquiries about gun ban exemptions, Kawit residents may visit the local COMELEC office.
