ROSARIO, Cavite — A 62-year-old tricycle driver returned a wallet containing 97,000 pesos to its owner, a Lalamove rider, in Rosario, Cavite, on July 12, 2024.

Armando Mercado found the wallet outside an Alfamart store on July 11. After unsuccessful attempts to locate the owner, he posted about it on Facebook the next day.

“Hindi ako mapakali ng gabing iyon… Hindi ako mapakali hanggat hindi ko naisasauli ang wallet sa mayari,” Mercado said. (“I couldn’t rest that night… I couldn’t rest until I returned the wallet to its owner.”)

Tricycle driver Armando Mercado has been making a living as driver in Rosario town, Cavite for nearly three decades.

The wallet belonged to Francis Ian Arnoco Masucol, a Lalamove rider from Costa Verde Subdivision in Barangay Tejero.

“Ang buong akala ko ay hindi na maisasauli ang wallet ko,” Masucol said. (“I thought I would never get my wallet back.”)

The wallet contained credit cards with a 94,000-peso limit, a driver’s license, and over 3,000 pesos in cash.

Mercado, president of the Manggahan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association, has been driving a tricycle for 28 years. He emphasized the importance of honesty and compassion in their community.

“Hindi ko pwedeng ariin ang bagay na hindi ko naman pag-aari. May takot ako sa Diyos may malasakit sa kapwa,” Mercado added. (“I can’t keep something that doesn’t belong to me. I fear God and care for others.”)

The incident is one of many cases where tricycle drivers in Rosario, Cavite, have returned valuable items to their rightful owners, showcasing the enduring spirit of kindness in the community.
