A two-day training programme aimed at strengthening families has been held for recipients of a Philippine government welfare scheme.

The event, titled “Empowering Parenthood: Together Towards Stronger Families”, took place in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

Forty-six parent leaders from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) attended the sessions at a local high school.

The training covered several key areas:

  • Basic gender sensitivity
  • Child protection laws
  • Legislation against domestic violence
  • Responsible parenting
  • Family planning

Officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Provincial Population Office led the discussions.

An open forum allowed participants to share experiences and ask questions.

The 4Ps scheme provides conditional cash transfers to poor households in the Philippines. It aims to improve health, nutrition, and education, particularly for children.

Organisers hope the training will enable parent leaders to become “catalysts for positive change” in their communities.

The Philippine government has been running the 4Ps programme since 2008 as part of its poverty reduction strategy.
