In a significant crackdown on illegal firearms, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit has arrested Maria Teresa Puno, a municipal councilor of Naic, Cavite. The operation, dubbed “Oplan Panlalansag Omega,” led to the seizure of an arsenal of unlicensed weapons from the councilor’s residence.

During the raid, authorities recovered four grenades, seven firearms of various calibers, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. The operation was part of a larger effort to neutralize private armed groups and confiscate loose firearms across the country.

The CIDG, in coordination with the Naic Municipal Police Station, executed two search warrants for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013. The warrants were issued by Judge Glenda Mendoza-Ramos of the Calamba City Regional Trial Court Branch 36.

The suspects, including Councilor Puno, her husband-vlogger Joselito Puno, and two companions, were arrested at their residence in Barangay Timalan Balsahan. The CIDG team’s haul included a variety of weapons and ammunition, all lacking the necessary legal documents.
