NOVELETA, Cavite — Police arrested three individuals caught burning copper wires stripped from cables during a joint operation by the Noveleta Police Station and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) around 12:41 p.m. Sunday, July 27, authorities said.
Police said the suspects were caught in the act of open burning copper wires, a prohibited practice that causes pollution and poses risks to public health.
During an inspection of the area, operatives also discovered illegal open dumping of waste, which authorities said further threatens the environment and residents’ health.
The three suspects were arrested and are undergoing appropriate legal process, while authorities look into other possible violations of environmental laws.
The Noveleta police and MENRO warned that they would intensify operations against violators of waste management regulations and the ban on open burning.
Authorities continued to urge the public to help protect the environment and immediately report any illegal activity that could harm it.
