ROSARIO, Cavite — Allana Franchesca C. Arcita, 24, of Barangay Silangan-I here, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, capping a journey that included a two-year delay in her studies and running an online cake business to help support her education.
Arcita, a full scholarship recipient, was forced to pause her studies for nearly two years after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her schooling. Rather than abandon her degree, she started selling cakes online during the break, using the income to help ease her family’s financial burden and keep her educational plans alive.
She also worked as a job order employee at her municipal government while completing her degree, commuting long hours between her hometown and the university before eventually moving into a dormitory in Dasmariñas to be closer to campus.
Arcita’s father, Allan Del Rosario Arcita, worked as an electrician in Saudi Arabia for more than 12 years to support the family, while her mother, Ma. Victoria Casas Arcita, works as a caregiver for the elderly. Arcita, the youngest of two siblings, said her parents’ work ethic inspired her to persevere through the setbacks in her studies.
Following her graduation, Arcita said she plans to pursue a career as a flight attendant, a profession she said would allow her to travel, serve others and provide better support for her family.
