DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — The filing of certificates of candidacy for a special election in Cavite’s 4th congressional district closed after Jennifer Austria Barzaga filed her candidacy on the last day, July 17, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.
Comelec said five candidates will officially vie for the House of Representatives seat representing the 4th district, which covers Dasmariñas City.
The candidates are Raul Rex Del Rosario Mangubat, Marvin Opamin Dupal-ag, Leysander Aguilar Ordenes, Jacinto Bautista Frani Jr. and Barzaga.
The special election is set for Aug. 29, when voters will choose a new district representative.
Comelec said the election period will run from July 30 to Sept. 13, during which a gun ban will be strictly enforced across Dasmariñas City. The ban prohibits carrying, bearing or transporting firearms and other deadly weapons in public places and vehicles, even for licensed holders, unless authorized by the commission.
The campaign period will also begin July 30 and run through Aug. 27, during which candidates may campaign ahead of the election.
