Cavite security guard honored after nabbing most wanted fugitive during shoplifting arrest
SILANG, Cavite — A female security guard was hailed as a hero after apprehending a shoplifting suspect who turned out to be a provincial most wanted fugitive from Ilocos Sur.
Security guard Maricel Baynosa Ombao received a Certificate of Recognition during a flag-raising ceremony at the New Municipal Building here Monday.
Silang Mayor Ted Carranza, Vice Mayor Cris “Kidlat” Reyes, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, and officials from the Silang Municipal Police Station led the recognition of Ombao’s vigilance and dedication to duty.
Police said Ombao apprehended a man at Premiere Plaza Mall in Barangay Lucsuhin on July 10 for alleged shoplifting. A subsequent police verification found the suspect was wanted under a warrant of arrest and listed as a provincial most wanted person in Ilocos Sur for statutory rape and sexual assault, both non-bailable offenses.
Ombao’s alertness led to the fugitive’s arrest, police said.
Police Lt. Col. Joseph D. Macatangay, chief of the Silang Municipal Police Station, praised the guard’s courage and professionalism, saying her actions demonstrated how vigilance and dedication to duty contribute to maintaining peace and order in the community.
The Silang municipal government also extended its congratulations and encouraged the public to emulate her commitment to community safety.
