GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite — The Department of Public Works and Highways said it is intensifying efforts to complete the long-delayed Punta-Open Canal Diversion Road in this Cavite city, targeting full completion before the end of 2027.
The agency said right-of-way disputes and funding shortfalls were the primary causes of the project’s nearly decade-long delay.
The three-kilometer diversion road, once finished, is expected to ease traffic congestion in General Trias and surrounding areas while improving the movement of goods and services across the province.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the department would work closely with the local government to resolve lingering right-of-way issues that have long stalled construction.
The agency said it was maintaining coordination with concerned offices to clear remaining obstacles and ensure uninterrupted construction moving forward.
