DRIVER LOSES BAG TO CAR-OPENING GANG IN KAWIT
KAWIT, Cavite — A driver identified only as “Tom,” a resident of Rosario, Cavite, lost a bag containing important documents and cash to suspected members of a car-opening gang while briefly stepping out to buy pet food Saturday.
Barangay CCTV footage showed “Tom” parking his red vehicle in front of a poultry store in Barangay Putol, Kawit, Cavite at around 12:10 p.m.
While he was inside the store, a man wearing a black shirt, white shorts, and a red cap approached the vehicle from the opposite side of the road.
The suspect initially appeared to be looking at the car’s side mirror before quietly opening the door and snatching a black bag from inside. He fled within seconds.
The victim only noticed the bag was missing upon returning to his vehicle. A review of barangay CCTV footage revealed he had fallen prey to the car-opening gang’s modus operandi.
Authorities said a second suspect is believed to have waited on the other side of the road to assist in the getaway, though he was not captured on camera.
Investigators are working to identify the suspects.
