LPG explosion, fire kill 2 in Dasmariñas City

DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — Two people were killed Thursday morning after a powerful explosion believed to be caused by LPG triggered a fire at a residence in Diamond Village, Barangay Salawag.

The Bureau of Fire Protection received a report of the incident at around 9:06 a.m. and dispatched firefighters, who worked to contain the blaze as it quickly spread through the house.

The owner of the house and business was identified only by the alias “Greg,” 65, a resident of the area and reported owner of Trijonetrics Corp. LPG.

Neighbors told investigators they heard a loud explosion from the victims’ home before the fire broke out, saying the blast reverberated across other parts of the barangay.

The two fatalities were identified by the aliases “Bryan,” 20, and “Honorio,” 65, both residents of Diamond Village. Their bodies were found on the veranda and outside the house after the incident.

Fire Inspector Michael John Escano of BFP Dasmariñas declared the fire out at around 9:55 a.m.

Authorities were still investigating the cause of the explosion and fire. The total extent of damage had not yet been determined. Police have called in a forensic unit to examine the scene and were continuing to interview witnesses to establish the cause of the incident.
