KAWIT, Cavite — A 73-year-old man and his wife were injured Wednesday morning after losing control of their SUV, which struck a street light and overturned along a road in this town.
The driver, identified only by the alias “Wilhelm,” a resident of Imus City, was driving a Toyota Fortuner when the accident occurred around 11 a.m. His wife, identified as “Perla,” 72, was with him at the time.
Police said the couple was traveling toward Bacoor when the driver suddenly lost control of the wheel, sending the vehicle into a street light on the side of the road before it rolled over onto its right side.
Personnel from the Kawit Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and local police responded immediately. The couple received first aid at the scene and were brought to St. Martin Maternity and Pediatric Hospital for further treatment.
The government-owned street light sustained damage, the extent of which was still being assessed. The wrecked vehicle was towed to the CAVITEX impounding area while authorities continued to investigate the cause of the accident.
Police reminded motorists to drive carefully to avoid similar incidents.
