BACOOR, Cavite — A security guard died Thursday after being electrocuted while trying to harvest mangoes inside a subdivision playground in Bacoor City, authorities said.

The victim was identified by alias as Francis, 25, a guard assigned to Springville Meadows 2 in Barangay Molino VI.

According to a preliminary report from the Bacoor City Police, the incident occurred around 2 p.m. A resident, identified by alias as Gallardo, a retired seafarer, reported hearing a loud explosion he believed came from a power line, followed by a blackout in the subdivision.

Gallardo went to investigate and found the victim unresponsive in a mango tree within the playground.

An initial investigation found the victim was using a harvesting pole with a metal component to reach the fruit. While in the tree, the metal part accidentally made contact with a live electrical wire near the tree, electrocuting him.

The shock caused the victim to lose consciousness. Responding barangay officials, a rescue team and medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, including examining the placement of the electrical lines near trees and public areas.

Authorities reminded the public to exercise caution when working near power lines, especially when using metal equipment, to prevent similar tragedies.
