ROSARIO, Cavite — Disaster response personnel revived an unconscious elderly man who had drowned at a beach resort here last Sunday after administering CPR for several minutes, officials said.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) team was on standby at the Incident Command Post at Isla Bonita Beach Resort at around 3:03 p.m. on April 4 when a man was seen shouting and waving from a distance, carrying an unresponsive elderly male.

First responder Charles Cuevas rushed to meet the pair at the shore, where the victim was laid on the sand. An initial assessment found he had no pulse and was not breathing.

MDRRMO personnel Jong Angeles immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation under the coordination of MDRRMO head Kap. Conrad Abutin. After three to five minutes of continuous chest compressions, the victim showed signs of life when he began vomiting — an indication that the resuscitation effort had succeeded.

Abutin coordinated the dispatch of an ambulance driven by Elmer Campuspos, which transported the victim to Rosario Medical and Emergency Clinic.

The victim, a resident of Barangay Silangan I, is estimated to be at least 70 years old. His condition after hospitalization was not immediately disclosed.
