BACOOR, Cavite — Officials of Bacoor City LGU dedicated a new monument Wednesday honoring local figures who fought in the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial rule.

Mayor Strike Revilla led the inauguration of the Bacoor Heroes Tower at Bacoor Freedom Park in Mabolo Plaza. The structure commemorates residents of Bacoor who participated in the late 19th-century struggle for independence.

The Rev. Ramoncito Rodrin Tadepa blessed the monument during a ceremony attended by Vice Mayor Rowena B. Mendiola, Rep. Lani M. Revilla and members of the city council. Descendants of local revolutionary figures also attended.

The city’s engineering office, headed by Engr. Jicky Jutba, and the culture and tourism office, led by Edwin Guinto, oversaw the project’s completion.

Bacoor City was a site of several battles between Filipino revolutionaries and Spanish forces.

The monument is the latest addition to Bacoor’s efforts to preserve local historical sites. The city has a population of approximately 700,000, according to recent census data.
