From April 2-4, 2024, Cavite witnessed a significant initiative to bolster disaster resilience through a Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) Tutorial and Information Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign. Spearheaded by local authorities and various organizations, the program was designed to impart crucial knowledge on managing hydrometeorological hazards and flood control.

The event kicked off with a QGIS Tutorial for city officials and Barangay leaders in General Trias, focusing on flood mitigation strategies. Experts from the Cavite Industrial Area โ€“ Flood Risk Management Project (CIS-FRIMP) led the sessions, which also included insights on weather systems and flood warnings from DOST-PAGASA Weather Specialists.

The campaign concluded with an IEC session for Noveleta Elementary School students, educating them on natural hazards and flood prevention. The involvement of key agencies such as DOST-PAGASA, DPWH UPMO-FCMC, the local Department of Education, and JICA was instrumental in the campaign’s success.

This initiative underscores a collective effort to create disaster-resilient communities and safeguard lives and properties in Cavite.
