KAWIT, Cavite — A key chapter in Cavite and Philippine history came under renewed scrutiny during a lecture on the arrest of Macario Sakay, held at the Aguinaldo Shrine on Sept. 15, 2026.
Historians, researchers, teachers and students attended the Manila Studies Center Conference, which aimed to present new perspectives and research on Philippine history, particularly on local historical issues.
Daniel Anciano, representing the Cavite Studies Center, presented a paper titled “Sakay’s Arrest in Cavite: A Geographic and Chronological Reassessment.”
The presentation examined primary sources, contemporary newspaper reports and other historical documents related to the arrest of Sakay and his companions in July 1906.
Anciano emphasized the importance of geography and accurate sequencing of events in reconstructing historical narratives. Through close analysis of original records, he sought to clarify longstanding questions surrounding the circumstances of Sakay’s capture.
The lecture also compared various accounts and interpretations, from earlier books and historical records to narratives documented after the fact, prompting further discussion among participants on the importance of examining the origin and context of each historical account.
The presentation opened up interest in further research into Cavite’s role during the revolution and the early years of American colonial rule.
