GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite — PLDT Inc.’s data center subsidiary VITRO Inc. is planning to build a data center in Southern Luzon with capacity of up to 100 megawatts, with General Trias, Cavite emerging as a likely site, the company said.
The project is expected to cost around 40 billion pesos.
The plan comes as demand for data centers and digital infrastructure continues to grow. VITRO’s revenue rose 13% in the first half of the year, the company said. PLDT has said it aims to expand its overall data center capacity to as much as 500 megawatts across the Philippines, positioning the company to compete regionally with markets such as Malaysia.
Other companies are also expanding data center capacity in the country, and rival telecom operator DITO Telecommunity is studying entry into the sector, underscoring intensifying competition in the industry.
Despite the growing investment, developers continue to face challenges securing adequate power supply and infrastructure needed to support large-scale data center facilities, which require substantial and stable electricity to operate.
