The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will strengthen coordination with motorcycle ride-hailing companies and local governments following the killing of a motorcycle taxi rider in Cavite.
The PNP said that although suspects have been arrested in the Cavite incident and in a separate stabbing in Caloocan City, it will continue implementing stricter measures to protect riders, passengers and the public from similar crimes.
The call followed the killing of a motorcycle taxi rider in Cavite on July 9, who authorities believe was a victim of robbery and violence while on a trip. Days later, another rider was killed in Caloocan City, further raising fears among motorcycle taxi drivers.
Meanwhile, a photo of a rider who wrote a message on the back of his helmet reading, “My wife is pregnant. Please don’t hurt me,” drew sympathy on social media. The PNP said the message reflects the hope of every Filipino worker to return home safely to their family after a day’s work.
The national police said all those involved in the crimes will be held accountable under the law as the cases proceed in court.
The PNP also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to the 911 emergency hotline to help maintain peace and safety on the streets.
