SILANG, Cavite — A woman shopping at the Silang Public Market was robbed by a pickpocket Sunday at around 10 a.m., authorities said.
The victim, a Silang resident, said about ₱20,000 in cash — money she had intended to use to buy a motorcycle — was stolen, along with several identification cards.
She said she noticed her bag, which was hanging in front of her, was open as she was about to pay for her purchases. Checking inside, she discovered her wallet, containing the cash and IDs, was missing.
The victim reported the incident to the market office and requested a review of CCTV footage, but was told the market’s cameras were not functioning.
She is appealing to anyone who finds her IDs to return them, even if the cash cannot be recovered, and hopes the person responsible for the theft can be identified.
Authorities renewed calls for shoppers at public markets to stay vigilant with their belongings, carry only the cash they need, and keep valuables secured to avoid falling victim to pickpockets.
