ROSARIO, Cavite — A 72-year-old street sweeper earned public recognition after she turned over a lost wallet containing cash and identification cards to barangay authorities instead of keeping it.

Nenita Barrera Martinez, known in her community as “Ate Nene,” found the wallet around 7:30 a.m. while sweeping in Barangay Bagbag-I. It contained ₱2,620 and several identification cards belonging to Justine J. Labial, an employee of Bolim Autoparts Philippines in the EPZA Rosario industrial zone.

Martinez brought the wallet to the barangay hall, where a kagawad posted details about it on social media. The owner’s sibling saw the post and contacted the barangay to retrieve it.

Barangay Captain Wilfredo Cuello said Martinez’s act was a demonstration of genuine integrity and a model of good character for the community. He said such acts of honesty should be recognized and emulated.

The barangay government is set to honor Martinez with a certificate of recognition.

Martinez, a mother of three and grandmother of 11, continues to work as a street sweeper despite her age. Officials expressed hope her example would remind residents to remain honest and responsible in all circumstances.
