IMUS CITY, Cavite — A 38-year-old construction worker was arrested after police found a concealed firearm and suspected shabu on him during a checkpoint operation Sunday afternoon in Barangay Anabu I-C.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Melio,” is a resident of the same city.
According to the police report, officers from the Imus City Police Station flagged down the suspect, who was riding a skeleton-type motorcycle along Anabu Coastal Road, at around 3:30 p.m.
Police grew suspicious after noticing an unusual bulge at the back of the suspect’s body. A pat-down search yielded a loaded .38-caliber revolver with five rounds of ammunition.
A more thorough search of the suspect’s pockets turned up a cigarette box containing a sachet of suspected shabu weighing approximately 0.08 grams, with an estimated street value of ₱544.
The suspect was immediately arrested and now faces charges of illegal possession of firearms under Republic Act 10591 and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, or Republic Act 9165.
Police reiterated their call for the public to refrain from illegal activities, saying checkpoint operations would continue as part of efforts to maintain peace and order in the community.
