In a bold bid to unclog worsening traffic and supercharge local growth, Laguna’s provincial government has officially broken ground on the highly anticipated Calamba-Bay Bypass Road – a game-changing project touted as a major leap forward in infrastructure, mobility, and investment potential.

Provincial officials, in partnership with the private firm Ecotoll Road and Development Corporation (ERDC), led a high-profile groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, marking the launch of what could be one of Southern Luzon’s most transformative public-private ventures.

Top brass from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), including Assistant Secretary Nerie Bueno, threw full weight behind the project, hailing it as a “vital artery” that fits squarely within President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s Build Better More program and the broader Laguna Lakeshore Road Network masterplan.

“This road will not only ease congestion—it will drive progress,” said Asec. Bueno. “We’re talking faster travel times, safer roads, and stronger regional links.”

Governor Ramil Hernandez recalled how the vision for the bypass was born back in 2018, amid mounting complaints over the paralyzing traffic in Calamba, Los Baños, and Bay. “This project is about more than infrastructure—it’s about building futures,” he said. “We’re creating jobs, drawing investors, and opening doors for the whole eastern corridor of Laguna.”

The project, funded entirely via private investment through ERDC, is being fast-tracked with full technical and logistical backing from the provincial government. ERDC Chairman Reghis M. Romero III assured the public that construction will be completed within three years, with strict attention paid to environmental safeguards.

“This is not just about roads—it’s about responsibility,” Romero said.

Mayors from Laguna’s 3rd and 4th districts joined the event, calling the bypass a “lifeline” that will drastically cut travel time, boost connectivity, and unlock long-overdue economic potential in their communities.

With shovels in the ground and support at all levels, Laguna’s newest infrastructure gamble may just pave the way for a brighter—and faster—future.
