GMA, CAVITE — Jeepney drivers plying the General Mariano Alvarez-Alabang route are calling on transport regulators and local officials to act on what they described as the continued operation of buses along their route.
In a statement circulating online dated Oct. 3, the drivers appealed to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Congress and local government officials, saying they had repeatedly raised the issue but had yet to see concrete action.
“We are the legitimate jeepney drivers of the GMA-Alabang route,” the drivers said in the statement.
The drivers alleged that the Metro Link Bus Company had been regularly loading and unloading passengers along Governor’s Drive, which they said was part of their authorized jeepney route.
They questioned why buses were allowed to operate on the route while jeepney drivers were being required to comply with regulations.
The drivers said they were not asking for financial assistance but wanted authorities to enforce existing rules and allow them to continue operating on their route.
“If buses are allowed on our route, buses should also be allowed on the jeepney route,” the drivers said.
They also claimed to have videos, vehicle plate numbers and other evidence documenting the alleged operations.
The drivers warned that they would bring the matter to the public through social media and seek support from commuters if their concerns were not addressed.
The allegations could not be independently verified from the statement alone. It was also unclear whether the bus operator had been asked to respond or whether the LTFRB had issued any ruling regarding the alleged operations.
The dispute highlights continuing tensions between public utility vehicle operators over route competition, passenger access and enforcement of transport franchises in rapidly growing areas of Cavite.
