TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s Trece Martires City Jail has formed the Phoenix Cheer Squad, a cheerleading group made up of persons deprived of liberty, giving inmates a new outlet for talent, discipline and teamwork.
Jail officials said the activity is designed to help inmates build confidence and cooperation as part of their rehabilitation, encouraging active participation and teamwork through cheerleading practice.
The squad’s name, Phoenix, was chosen to symbolize renewal and new beginnings, officials said, with members using training and performances to show that setbacks can become opportunities for self-discovery and personal growth.
Jail Officer 1 Espinas leads the squad as trainer, with training sessions emphasizing discipline, proper technique, teamwork and participant safety, according to jail officials.
