SILANG, Cavite — Seven people were arrested after National Bureau of Investigation agents raided a residence in Barangay Lucsuhin here that was allegedly being used as a hub for illegal online cockfighting and scam operations.
NBI-NCR Regional Director Emeterio Dongalo Jr. said cyber investigators monitored the operation for more than three months before conducting surveillance and obtaining a cyber warrant.
Agents seized about 15 computers and other electronic devices in the raid. Initial cyber forensic findings indicated the equipment was being used to run illegal online cockfighting operations, the NBI said.
The bureau is also investigating allegations that betting results may have been manipulated and that the operation had customers based overseas. Dongalo said those allegations remain part of the ongoing investigation, and no court has issued a final ruling on the matter.
The seven suspects, all between 18 and 24 years old, remain in custody. Investigators are also looking into whether a larger group recruited or directed them.
The NBI said it would continue its follow-up investigation to identify other possible suspects and prepare charges against those already arrested.
