The remaining phases of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite extension will not be operational until 2031, with roughly five kilometers of the project still incomplete, the Department of Transportation said.

Transportation Undersecretary Timothy John Batan disclosed the timeline during a House committee hearing on infrastructure flagship programs and projects on May 20.

The unfinished segments will add two more stations — one in Las Piñas and another in Bacoor, Cavite — to the extension line, which currently terminates at the Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque.

Phase 1 of the extension, covering five stations from Redemptorist to Dr. Santos, became operational in late 2024.

The full extension, once completed, is expected to accommodate an additional 300,000 passengers daily and ease traffic congestion in Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Bacoor.

The project is a public-private partnership between the DOTr and the Light Rail Manila Corporation, and will extend the existing LRT-1 line 11.7 kilometers southward from Baclaran Station, with a total of eight new stations upon full completion.
