30 tons of vegetables distributed free in Imus as aid to Benguet farmers
IMUS, Cavite — Residents lined up Saturday morning to receive free cabbage and pechay at Thrifters Haven here, as organizers distributed an estimated 30 metric tons of vegetables sourced directly from farmers in Benguet.
The giveaway drew crowds carrying eco bags and boxes starting around 9 a.m. Organizers said the initiative was aimed at helping Benguet farmers move surplus produce that would otherwise go to waste due to a lack of buyers.
“It would be a shame to let their hard work go to nothing. It’s better to give it to those in need,” one volunteer said.
The program, called “Helping our Farmers in Benguet,” was led by Thrifters Haven Fashion House in partnership with Fashion Depot.
Attendees expressed gratitude for the relief the giveaway provided amid rising commodity prices. Organizers said the event reflected the spirit of bayanihan, or communal solidarity, in supporting both consumers and the farming sector.
