Noveleta Mayor Bikes to Work to Set Example Amid Rising Fuel Prices

NOVELETA, Cavite — The mayor of this Cavite town has traded his vehicle for a bicycle, pedaling to and from the municipal hall as fuel prices continue to rise across the country.

Mayor Davey Reyes Chua said he made the switch to set a practical example for residents on how to cut back on daily expenses, particularly fuel costs, amid the ongoing price surge.

“My house is close to the municipal hall, so I figured I might as well bike to work and back. It already makes a big difference in savings,” Chua said.

The mayor’s home is less than a kilometer from the municipal hall, making the bicycle a convenient alternative to a car for his daily commute.

Residents have welcomed the gesture, saying it signals their mayor’s willingness to share in the difficulties faced by ordinary Filipinos. Several noted that the switch also carries an environmental benefit, reducing vehicle emissions in the area.

Fuel prices in the Philippines have climbed in recent weeks, driven in part by supply concerns linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, squeezing household budgets and transport workers who rely on gasoline for their livelihoods.
