Cavite State University (CvSU) has agreed a P2-billion peso deal with Philko Group of Companies to install solar power systems across its 13 campuses, a move designed to shore up local electricity supply and support economic growth, the university said on Monday.

The public-private partnership aims to reduce the university’s operating costs, generate revenue from selling excess power to the national grid, and provide a share of carbon credit income, CvSU said in a statement.

The project will add baseload capacity, contributing to the Philippines’ target of deriving 35% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. This goal aligns with the country’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and the Kyoto Protocol to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

CvSU President Agnes Nuestro signed the contract for the project, which was launched by presidential adviser for poverty alleviation Larry Gadon. The university’s solar program forms part of a broader scheme that also includes hospitals under the Department of Health.
