A 23-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday night after her 4-year-old daughter died from injuries consistent with a beating, according to Dasmariñas police.

The child, identified only as “Crystal,” was declared dead at a hospital at 8:06 p.m. Police said the girl was brought in with numerous bruises and deep wounds.

Authorities arrested the mother, Beverly, 23, in Barangay Salawag following the incident. An initial police investigation states that witnesses saw the suspect repeatedly strike the child with a piece of wood until the girl lost consciousness.

Police said the suspect then sought help from witnesses to take the child to the hospital after noticing she was not breathing.

The Dasmariñas Police are continuing their investigation and are preparing a parricide case against the mother.
